Abstract: The NAVOCEANO MCSST data product provides a high quality near real time sea surface temperature data set with a high number of cloud free retrievals. Additionally the orbital 9km resolution allow this data to be used in a quasi real time mode for detection of mesoscale features such as eddies associated with major current systems. This product is currently available as orbital level 2 ungridded data with future plans to create a level 3 product. Data currently exists from August 29, 2001 and will be continuously received at a lag of several hours. Data is received for both the NOAA-14 and NOAA-16 sensors.
This data set is considered to be an improvement over previous MCSST products in that improved cloud detection algorithms have led to more pixels being retrieved.
This data set is currently only available via anonymous FTP to: ftp://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/sea_surface_temperature/avhrr/navoceano_mcsst/
Read software in written in Interactive Data Language (IDL) and C are provided.
